Economic Justice

Many North Dakota families live in poverty and struggle to afford food and housing, despite the economic boom in our state.

Approximately one of every seven children in North Dakota (about 15%) is considered impoverished, according to ND Kids Count. Another 9% live in families with incomes just above the poverty line. These figures have remained relatively unchanged for over a decade.

Our religious beliefs demand that we help fellow humans in need. While we often devote our time and resources to compassion work and charity, we also strongly believe that we have a responsibility to address the root causes of poverty and economic injustices. The Bible says we must not only give to the poor but also advocate on their behalf; we must “speak up, judge righteously, champion the poor and the needy” (Proverbs 31:9).

Faith Forward supports policy changes and community efforts that address hunger and food insecurity, affordable housing and homelessness, transportation issues, a living wage, pay equity, and family leave and sick leave.
